Early Life of Narayana Murthy
Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy was born on 20 August 1946 in Sidlaghatta, a city in Karnataka. He belongs to a Hindu Middle-class family. His father, Ramaswamy Murthy, was a schoolteacher, and his mother, Padavathamma, was a homemaker. They placed great emphasis on education and discipline. Despite limited financial resources, his parents were determined to provide the best education possible for their children. Ramaswamy Murthy was known for his honesty and dedication to teaching, which greatly influenced Narayana. His mother, a kind and a religious woman encouraged him to be humble and respectful. Narayana Murthy had seven siblings. Despite their limited financial means, his parents ensured that all of them received a good education and were brought up with strong values.

His school education took place in the local schools of Shidlaghatta, where he consistently excelled in his studies. Murthy’s Keen interest in mathematics and science became evident during his school years, earning him recognition as a bright and disciplined student. His teachers often praised his analytical abilities and thirst for knowledge, which laid the groundwork for his later achievements. After completing his schooling, Narayana Murthy pursued higher education in engineering. He enrolled at the National Institute of Engineering in Mysore, where he obtained his bachelor's in electrical engineering in 1967. Determined to deepen his knowledge Narayan took admission in IIT Kanpur to pursue a master's in electrical engineering.

How Narayana Murthy Started his Career
Murthy First worked as a research associate under a faculty at IIM Ahmedabad and then later as the chief systems programmer. There he worked on India’s first-sharing computer system and designed and implemented a BASIC interpreter for Electronics Corporation of India Limited He started company named Softronics. When that company failed after about a year and a half, he joined Patni Computer Systems in Pune.
Story of Founding Infosys
In 1981, Murthy founded infosys in Pune along with 6 other software engineers named Nandan Nilekani, S.D. Shibulal, K. Dinesh, N.S. Raghavan, Ashok Arora, and Kris Gopalakrishnan. Initial Capital - The company was started with a modest sum of Rs. 10,000, borrowed from Murthy’s wife, Sudha Murthy.
The founders faced numerous challenges, including a lack of infrastructure, computers, and funding. Despite these hurdles, they were determined to build a technology services company that could serve global clients. During the early years, Infosys operated in a tough business environment. Foreign exchange regulations and technological limitations made global operations difficult. Murthy’s Leadership emphasized ethics, transparency, and customer-centric innovation, helping Infosys stand out in the crowded IT sector.
Personal Life of Narayana Murthy
In 1978, he married Sudha Murthy, a writer, social worker, and philanthropist. The couple has two children, Rohan Murthy and Akshata Murthy. Akshata Murthy is wife of Rishi Sunak, Former PM of United Kingdom. Sudha Murthy is best known for her philanthropy and her contribution to literature in Kannada and English. Dollar Bahu, a novel originally authored by her and then presented in TV serial form. Sudha Murthy is also a member of Rajya Sabha.
