Spin Legend Ravichandran Ashwin Announces his Retirement from International Cricket at the age of 38
Why R Ashwin is Retiring
The decision from Ashwin to announce retirement might have come out of the blue, but it was a move that had been long coming. The talk first surfaced during the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home in 2023, but when another showdown came calling, Ashwin seems to have made up his mind particularly because of his Knee Problem. But this is not the only reason. Throughout his 13-year international career, Ashwin amassed 537 wickets in 106 Test matches, making him India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests after Anil Kumble. He also scored six test centuries and was instrumental in India’s successes, particularly against Australia. Ashwin’s decision to retire came after being left out of the series opener in Perth, which contributed to his choice to retire on his own terms. Some experts believe that Ashwin didn’t get ample opportunities to show his talent.
